Moving Forward – July 2016

Bangkok 112 News 36 Comments

Bangkok 112 has now grown more than I ever imagined when I first started in December 2014. However, this website and the YouTube channel can always improve and with your support I can make improvements to bring even better content from Thailand and it’s neighbouring countries.

Only in November 2015 I was considering cancelling the YouTube channel and uploading every existing and future video to Vimeo (a rival video network) and putting all videos behind a membership paywall. As of June 2016 I’m happy I never went down that route and I always want the videos to be 100% free to view on YouTube (or a leading video network).

Paypal donations are open now as of 1st July 2016. Any money received will 100% support the channel to make better videos for the future. Think of this as a kind of tip jar if you’ve ever enjoyed a video of mine, any money will be gratefully received.

So if you’ve ever enjoyed my videos and would like to buy me a frosty beer or 10 you can now do so through Paypal. I will thank each and every donator in some form in the future.

As a benefit to my subscribers and website viewers I’ve decided to start uploading some hotel videos from popular places where I make the videos. I’ve included links to these hotels and they are available to book at no extra charge from the normal rate.

Additionally, if you click on one of the links above and book a hotel directly anywhere in the world a small commission will be generated at no extra charge to yourself (alternatively you can use the search below). This will 100% support the Bangkok 112 YouTube channel and website to help bring better content.

Please bookmark this page for future use if needed.

NB. There are no cookies on any the links so you will need to click through and book the hotel in one go for it to work. Thank you for your support.

Channel Content

As it stands I have no plans to change the general theme of the videos and will continue with nightlife orientated content with some travel and food mixed in for good measure.

Viewership on YouTube can be fickle from month to month, it took an eternity to go from 0 to 10k subscribers. With the YouTube algorithm changing in 2016 they now don’t notify every subscriber a new video is out unless it is already performing very well.

So in theory a few bad months could bring an end to the channel. Hopefully this will never happen but with support from followers it will ensure the channel will keep going, and should result in an increase in the numbers of videos posted.

Privacy policy

Finally there is a policy on the Bangkok 112 YouTube channel that if a person ends up in a video and doesn’t want to be then I blur them / re-edit the video within 24 hours of receiving an email about it. It has happened a handful of times already and I’ve no problem doing this. The same applies to photos posted on this website.

Thank you for viewing and the Bangkok 112 YouTube channel. With your support I hope an even brighter future is ahead…

I need to get a job like you so I visit Pattaya often, 20 hour flights from Chicago are a big bummer!
The more videos you post, the more I want to go! I do like when you sit across from popular bars and just watch! Thanks , yours are the best.

      Hi Brian,

20 hour flights sound like a killer, but its worth it if you have a great trip! 🙂

Thanks for the compliment about the videos. I try to make them exactly how I would like to watch on YouTube.

Have a good one man and thank you for the comment.

There is a minibus service that costs around 250 baht per person, taxis are around 5-600 baht. Both can be booked at the airport. Thanks for your comment Ken.

Can I suggest a forum on your website so people can chat about their experiences and ask for advice etc. Where to stay what to do. How much spending money is appropriate per day etc.
These are all discussions I want to have with some experienced people.

I’m not new to this sort of scene as I’ve done it in 4 countries and counting (mostly carribean) but Thailand is so much further than going to somewhere close like the carribean. (Dominican, Cuba, Mexico, Vegas etc)

Hey Mike. In the long term I will add a forum to the website at some point, but it is a slow process and It will probably be towards the end of 2016. Thanks for your comment.

I was planning to, but it’s expensive flying there from Thailand and with the YouTube channel views dying down recently its not worth it right now. I will go in the future at some point but for now its on the back burner. Thanks for your comment.

I happen to came across a new channel tonight called ThaiLand Food, travel and I just wanted to let you know that it has a lot of your videos on it . I just wanted to let you know because I know you put a lot of time and effort into your channel to give us a look of what Thailand has to offer and I would hate for someone to be stealing you videos from you .

Just curious if you use a regular camera or some spy cam type thing, considering most would probably get angry at you filming them. It seems you are able to move it around based on what you want to look at so I was guessing some type of glasses or headwear. Anyway, love your content, I am totally hooked and can’t wait to make my first venture to SE asia aka “heaven on earth” very soon. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Hi, just wanted to let you know, that I love your videos.
Are you actually staying in Bangkok right now? Are you working there?
Just came back from LOS and trying to contact a certain person at a certain bar. Didn’t get her mobile number as I was too dumb or too hung over to ask.
Can you help? I’ll buy you a couple of beers 😉
    Thanks and all the best…

    Hi BKK112,

I’d like to thank you once again for all the effort you put in and showcase the different sides to Thailand. Its definitely my go-to YouTube channel and website.

Fellow subscribers and viewers, let’s make sure we support the channel to the extent possible and make sure we get our friendly yet insightful dose on YouTube every now and again.

    cheers all,

    Hi Bangkok112,

Just wanted to drop a line to you as others to commend you on your You Tube videos(which I have seen most of them). Your videos not give a great insight to night life in Bangkok and Pattaya but also good places to stay at and eat. I especially enjoyed your reviews of top gogo bars in Bangkok. Don’t know of I ever will make it to Thailand in my lifetime, but if I ever do, I will be well informed by your videos and website! Thanks for sharing with us and keep up the good work!

    I didn’t really know where to put this question… This seems as good a place as any;

I love reading about this. I enjoy watching the videos to a certain extent. But really would like to try it myself.
The problem with that is that a) I don’t really have any friends I could approach about taking such a trip (they’re mostly mid 30s, like me), coupled with b) me being pretty shy and also nervous, so I fear that this scene would chew me up and spit me out…

    I said there was a question, so here it is;
Are there any … what-to-call-it, social groups where you could meet up with others, make some friends, hit the town and perhaps learn the basics from the more experienced guys? Maybe it sounds silly, but look to b) above… and from what I read and from watching videos, the game looks like a single player one for the most part.

Solo travel is the best way for Thailand IMO. Sure, everyone is a bit nervous on there first trip (eg. I was too scared to get a massage originally) and it can be a real culture shock all the women trying to get you in the bars.
There are some Thai forums where you can ask newbie questions, and even arrange an old hand to have a few beers with you and show you the sights (you’ll be paying for drinks).
My best advice is to not overthink it and just fly out and see it for yourself. You might like it, you might not. Don’t believe everything you read on the net and judge the place for yourself. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the message. Usually once a week I send in a YouTube complaint form and have these channels shut down. No big deal really as if a video ever gets any decent traffic it pops up in my feed so they can never win. Cheers Johnson.

Try applying for Content ID matching with YouTube. You can choose whether you want YouTube to detect just video or just sound by themselves, or both at the same time.

As soon as they upload your videos, YouTube will reject it before they can publish it. That will save you having to send YouTube as many complaint forms. They will work out ways around it, but at least it will save you some time, and give the the thieves more hassle.

            Hey man,

Content ID matching wouldn’t work for me because I do some walk around videos which pick up copyrighted music in the background.
I’m not all that bothered about it really, usually once a week I’ll put in a complaint about the obvious channels that rip off my stuff. It’s no big deal, a lot of my subscribers send me messages and emails about videos they find so it probably takes up 10 mins of my time a week.
As a sidenote I recently have just found one of my videos on a channel with 650k views! That’s a record for me 🙂
I never retract copyright strikes too once sent out as a policy and the emails I get begging to retract copyright claims are pretty amusing TBH 🙂

            Thanks for your comment Johnson.

          3. Johnson

As I mentioned above, you can choose whether you want Content ID matching to pick up just video or just audio or both, so you could elect ‘just video’, so it wouldn’t matter what copyrighted music is in the background, it would just look at people uploading the video component, and ignore the audio.

Up to you, as they say in Thailand 🙂

Good on you for not retracting your copyright claims. Those bastards shouldn’t think they can get away with stealing your hard work. Eventually they will probably give up stealing your videos.

Anyway, I just came across another one:

Briefly it says in each video that I can visit your site for hotel information.

What would happen if you added a third line:

    Hi BKK112,
your vids keep me cheered up until my next visit.
I am due to visit in April for Songkran 2017. First stop Pattaya for most of a week then I am stuck, my current thought are chaing mai then Khorat (except its pants to get to), otherwise its Ao Nang/Krabi. I like to do touristy stuff at day (temples/site seeing etc) then party at night.
Any views appreciated, previously I have been to Phucket and Surin. I like the idea of Khorat due to the low farang count (so I have heard) so I would get lots of attention(?) but I dont speak much Thai so I dont know… at a bit of a loss tbh. BKK for songkran week thats the end plan.
